The Master and Commander Kingwell
Master Keith White and Clerk John White reported for duty at 7.00 am at Portsmouth Harbour to go aboard our affiliated ship HMS Argyll Sailing in company with two other frigates and a destroyer, Argyll was later joined by two minesweepers for a very full day of exercises -a minesweeping demonstration, anti-submarine and shooting the 4.5-inch gun but perhaps the most impressive was the demonstration of ship to ship transfer.
A quiet moment was found for the Master to present a cheque to the Captain, Commander John Kingwell, for their welfare fund and to award the "Paviors' Man of the Year" to Chief Petty Officer (Sonar) Callaghan. The opening paragraph of the citation read: Chief Petty Officer Callaghan joined HMS Argyll in January 2000. During his time on board he has proven to be an extremely proficient sonar specialist who takes deep professional pride in achieving the highest standards.
